The Albondo Project

This ambitious project includes buying the land where a “state of the art eco friendly” sun and rain catching gymnastics facility will be built. An outdoor swimming pool and a five bedroom property would also be built. This property would provide accommodation for overseas volunteers whilst they are coaching.
We are looking for financial backing to help make this dream become a reality. If you would like to help in any way, please feel free to send us an e-mail or use the “contact form” to get in touch.
Here is a video outlining the Albondo project

Aims & Objectives

The main objective is to create a teaching facility that will not only serve the local district but also serve the wider community of the island. We aim to put a system in place to help us reach as many children as humanly possible aiming to improve their opportunities to learn gymnastics and how to swim.

Teaching children to swim is an area we wish to develop rapidly. Our research with the local surfing community tells us that approximately 855 people (including children) are known to drown in Sri Lanka annually. Any constructive swimming programme would be gratefully received by this community.

Access to the highest quality coaches will make Albondo an amazing facility for children to learn the basics of gymnastics, as well as providing the opportunity to create an elite pathway to achievable goals for many children in surrounding schools and colleges.

Once the facility is finalised and built, it’s all about putting a pyramid system in place. Starting with under 4’s each child will follow their own path of progress through the pyramid. A team of 25+ coaches will take the programme forward under our expert guidance.

The Site

The area of land where we hope to build the facility is just across the road and railway line close to Dalawella beach. The land is 132 Perches (0.825 acres).

Situated 6km from the centre of Galle and 126km from Colombo, the site can be accessed either by a short flight from the airport to land just south of Dalawella, or an easy 2 hour drive via the freeway. Regular buses serve the area, providing easy and inexpensive transport, making access possible by all.

This is the Southern Province, with a population of 2.5 million is the 2nd most populated province the country.
